Meal Plan Monday, but on Tuesday...

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

I know I usually meal plan on Monday, but I really wanted to do the Favorites under $10 for Monday and quite honestly, I didn't have time to meal plan until right now (Monday night)! This is another great reason for freezer meals. I just popped one of those in the crock pot this afternoon, added a steam bag of brown rice and a steam bag of broccoli and a delicious home cooked dinner was served without much thought and, in no time at all! Check out the freezer meal post here. The meal we ate was the Teriyaki Chicken and it was the best one I have had so far! Delicious! Ok, now for the rest of the week...

Week of September 29th

Breakfast
English muffin with Pumpkin butter or cold cereal.

Lunch
Turkey or Tuna sandwich, Tomato soup or dinner leftovers.

Dinner Plans for:

Monday - Teriyaki Chicken (freezer meal) served with brown rice and broccoli.

Favorites Under $10 - Fall Decor

Monday, September 29, 2014

OK, I swear, this is my last I LOVE FALL post!! If you have been following along with me the whole time you know that fall is my favorite season. Today is all my favorite fall decorations under $10! I love to decorate my house for each season and holiday, but I don't like to spend a lot of money, so I do a pretty good job of getting into the seasons without breaking the bank!

I LOVE, love, love the dollar bins at Target! That is where I have bought a bunch of my fall decor. The rest have been random pick ups at different stores. I also have two DIY decor projects at the end of the post!

This little set up that I put on top of our heater comes in at just under $10.

I got the pumpkins and SPOOKY sign at Target, $3 each. The white pumpkins are from Trader Joe's for $.69 each. I was thinking about painting on the pumpkins but haven't thought of anything that I want to try yet!

Here is a view of my entertainment center shelves.

None of the items on any of the shelves cost more than $10. The most expensive item is my glass owl that I got at Home Depot for $6.99. The "Happy Halloween" sign is from Target, $2.

In the bathroom, I added a few touches such as my favorite little owl, which I got at Rite Aid for $2.50....

My wooden "trick or treat" sign that was $2 at Target.

For $4.50, I was able to give the bathroom a fall makeover!

In the kitchen, I am big on fresh things for decor, fresh flowers and pumpkins are a large part of the decor with a few things mixed in. Trader Joe's had bouquets of fall flowers for $3.99. I made two arrangements with one bouquet!

The pumpkin soap was at Joann fabrics for $1

Candles are always fun, I got this holder at rite aid for $1.99.

I got this super cute ghost at a church yard sale for $1.

This summer we made this at the pottery place which was $12 and a little of our own creativity! This will be the only over $10 item I will show, but it is so cute and so special I couldn't resist!

Now my picture ledges. Love my ledges! It holds a ton of pictures of the people I love and also is a great place for decorations!

From the first shelve, subway art FREE! I printed here and put in a frame that I already had!

I have a few glittery wooden pumpkins on the shelves which I got at JoAnn Fabrics for $3 or less depending on the size. I have another on the shelves in my office space (shown below).

And of course my little owl that I got at Michael's for $1.99! Not sure if you can tell, but I clearly have a thing for owl decorations! I don't know why, but I think they are adorable!

Now for my two DIY projects!

#1 BOO

I made the BOO from my picture ledges myself! I bought the letters at Joann fabrics for $1.50. Used black and orange paint, that I already had, to paint them. Finally, glued a glitter spider that I got in a package of 6 for $2.88 at Walmart, to the orange O. Total $2.18!

I love the way it looks on the ledges! Olivia says it is her favorite Halloween decoration :)

#2 Candy Corn Trees

I have two floor vases that I change out for each season and holiday. Check out the Halloween set up!

Pay no attention to the fact that we have no floor trim! That is one of those things that will eventually get done, along with trim around my windows if you picked up on that from some of the other photos!!! :)

It was so simple to make! I hot glued candy corns on the sticks to make my "tree." I then tied a white string to one of the branches and hot glued a spider to the string to have it hanging from the branch. I hot glued one spider to another branch and one to the smaller vase. The smaller vase is filled with the rest of the candy corns and different sized and textured pumpkins.

Supplies
Vases (I already had them)
Sticks - Free
Candy Corn - $2
Spiders - $1.44
Pumpkins - $.50 at a yard sale
Hot Glue
String

I made this decoration for $3.94 since I didn't have to buy many supplies, but even if you had to buy all the supplies you could still do each vase for $10 or under!

That's it! That is all my fall d├ęcor! I hope you enjoyed seeing how I decorate my home on a budget!

I am linking up with Momfessionals and A Little Bit of Everything for Friday Favorites today! I have to say I really enjoy doing the favorites posts! Next Friday though, I will be back with How the Jeans Fit Friday - Scale edition!

#1 Fall

It is "officially" fall! It has been fall in my house since September 1st, but now the world has joined me! I love everything about fall. The weather, the food, the activities, back to school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas preparations, apple picking, pumpkin picking and the baking that goes along with them, fall decorations, fall crafts. You name it I probably love it!

#2 Fresh Flowers

I love to buy fresh flowers! I love to receive flowers as well, but that doesn't happen as often as I buy them for myself! Mike probably buys them for me a few times a year, so he isn't a complete slacker :) I don't buy them too much in the winter, but in the spring and in the fall, I buy them almost weekly. There is just something about fresh flowers that brighten up a house and I crave that in the spring around here after a long winter and there is no better decoration in the fall than an arrangement of fall colored flowers! Take a look at some arrangements I made from some Trader Joe's flowers this week!

#3 Pumpkin Butter

I am loving Pumpkin Spice lattes from Starbucks, the Pumpkin Mocha iced lattes from Dunkins...all the usuals! But this week I bought a new pumpkin food and I am in love! Pumpkin Butter! Seriously people, it is so good!

I am loving it for two reason...
1. It is delicious!
2. It has a touch of sweetness to it and even though I love it, I won't eat a ton of it. This is a win, win for me because with peanut butter, I can't get enough of it. I LOVE it and can eat it right from the jar and I can eat mass quantities of it without thinking twice (I am not alone here, right??). It is a food that I feel I need to consume daily, but can often have a hard time portioning. So now I have found a great alternative. It is perfect on all the usual suspects such as English muffins and apples, but I only use a little!

#4 Fall Clothes

I love me some fall clothes. Jeans, t-shirt or long sleeves. I love adding a scarf to an outfit, layers, cardigans (I may have one in every color!) and  sweatshirts! If I am being totally real, my weight is a big factor in my relief that it is finally time for fall clothes. Next summer I know I will love getting some new summer clothes and I probably won't be quite as excited to cover up in the fall, but this year I am happy for the layers! If I was going out to buy new fall clothes, these are the types of outfits I would look for.....

Love these outfits! I don't necessarily love every accessory shown but the clothes and most of the shoes are right up my alley for things I would love to buy! I am itching to put together some of these outfits, but I am holding off right now. I  have enough to get me through the next few months of cooler weather and hopefully, I will be able to add some things around Christmas time after I have lost some weight!

#5 TGIF

This is my favorite day of the week! Today Owen and I are just hanging around the house and the yard. We will walk down to get Olivia today and maybe have a little outside time before we head inside for Pizza and movie night. My favorite time of the week! We make pizza, watch a movie and just hang out as a family! I look forward to it every week! The past few weeks we have watched Full House, which I am loving, but tonight I would like to get back to watching a movie. I was thinking maybe this one...

Have a great Friday!!

WIAW - Monday and Recipe Edition!

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

I typically link up with Peas and Crayons on Wednesday for What I Ate Wednesday. This week I am also linking up with Momfessionals for Recipe club! I decided that we would eat one of my new freezer meals recipes on Monday (the day I was going to document for WIAW) and hope it was great so that I could use the dinner recipe for recipe club....luckily it was a success :)

Breakfast

I had my usual, but was out of bananas, so it was just an English muffin with peanut butter. I still love it though. Really I would eat anything that included peanut butter, I know I am not alone there!

Lunch

We met friends at McDonald's so that the kids could play and we could chat! I forgot to take a picture, but I had a Sweet Chili Chicken Wrap. It is really good. Not as terrible as having a Big Mac, but maybe not as good as having a salad (I do like salad, but wasn't in the  mood for one yesterday). It was 380 calories, more than I would typically have for lunch, but also, we very rarely go to McDonalds so I am not going to worry about it too much! I found this picture and the nutrition facts on the McDonalds website. Oh and I didn't mention that I also had fries...oops!

Dinner

For dinner I made one of the freezer meals that I put together a couple of weeks ago. Every one has been delicious so far. This one was no exception! For the list of all the recipes I used, click here.

I am going to share the recipe for Who Needs a Cape's Applesauce BBQ Chicken

Chicken Breast (recipe called for 4 I used 3)
1/2 TSP Ground pepper
2/3 cup Chunky applesauce (I used Mott's Naturals, I couldn't find chunky)
2/3 Cup BBQ Sauce (I used Sweet Baby Rays)
2 TBSP Brown Sugar
1 TSP Chili Powder

I put this all in a freezer bag a few weeks ago and froze it until Monday. On Monday, I ran it under warm water to release it from the bag and popped it into the crock pot (I use the Crock Pot liners). I cooked it on low for only 4.5 hours, then turned it to warm. I feel like even frozen it never needs to be cooked as long as the instructions say. It can dry out really quickly. I could have probably even cut 30 minutes off the cook time. I know its hard when you have to leave it all day, but I think cooking it less is a must for really tender chicken breasts!***(this is only my opinion, please make sure your chicken is cooked completely before eating)***I poured some sauce over the cut up chicken and it was delicious! I served it with leftover potatoes and broccoli.

I made the potatoes the night before. I don't use a recipe, but they are good enough to share what I do with them and super easy! Here are the ingredients. The amounts are to taste.

Steam bag of red potatoes
Onion
Garlic powder
Salt
Pepper
Red Pepper Flakes
Olive Oil

I steamed the potatoes, cut them up and stirred a little olive oil in with them to make the dry ingredients stick. Sprinkled them with the spices and stirred. I use that combination of Olive oil and spices on a whole lot of things besides potatoes, like vegetables such as green beans and broccoli. It is really good, super easy and makes the stuff a lot less boring!

That's all I ate Monday, between my busy morning and bigger than normal lunch, I didn't snack at all. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I was talking to my friend on Sunday and she was talking about it being important to eat every 2-3 hours? This leads me to some reader questions for the day....

How many meals a day do you eat? 3? 4? 5? 6?
Do you schedule snacks into your day or just eat when you are hungry??

Summer Vacation Part 2: Camp

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

This summer, we had a great week at "camp." This is not camping, but a home away from home! We rented a cabin on the lake with Mike's sister and her family. Spent the week relaxing, floating in the lake, eating, drinking and spending time with a whole lot of family. It was so much fun! Here are some pictures from our week!

Fishing

Kayaking

Canoeing

Tubing

Boating

Driving the boat with cousin Brad.

"Attempting" to water ski...

This is about as far up as I got before inhaling all the water in the lake (or so it felt like!)

 Floating

The adults would go out and float on pool noodles, Owen would sit on a float and the big kids would use their lifejackets and swim or kayak around us. The white and blue buoy looking thing is a floating cooler...a floating cooler, does it get any more convenient??!! We would stay out there for hours just floating, laughing and having fun!

Swimming

We have gone to camp in the Woodland area of Maine a few times before because Mike has family there. It is great because we get a vacation while we spend time with Mike's extended family.

Every time we go north we head over to Eastport, ME for the best lobster rolls we have ever had at Quoddy Bay Lobster! This picture was from after lunch and another gorgeous view, although you can't tell in the picture with all the fog!

Lots of family time! Love when the kids get to hang out with all their cousins!

We would have loved to have more fires during the week, but the bugs were crazy at night. Here was one beautiful night!

And this was our view for a whole week! Could it get anymore relaxing and perfect??!!

We had a whole lot of fun!

Yay for vacation!

XOXO
