Friday Favorites - Maple Syrup Edition

Friday, March 31, 2017

Happy Friday! I am so happy for the weekend, yet so sad that is going to snow Saturday. I can't even. I went out without a jacket yesterday afternoon and tonight it is going to start snowing. Please bring spring, please!

I love telling you guys what some of my favorite things are, and I figured where I did a fun post on Tuesday, why not another one today??!!
Linking up with the Friday Favorite ladies, Erika, Andrea and Narci

Netflix Binges. They are so good, yet so time consuming! Right now I am watching One Tree Hill which I watched a bit of when it was originally on. I totally forgot how much I liked the show and how much I hate Dan Scott...anybody else??

The basement is mostly cleared out finally so we had room to set up the treadmill again. So if I want to watch One Tree Hill during the day, I can only do it on the treadmill. 60 minutes yesterday :)

We made our own maple syrup last weekend. The boys tapped two maple trees in the backyard and collected 8 gallons of sap throughout the week. On Sunday we boiled the sap down all day.

We thought it would take about 5-6 hours, but it actually took 10 total between outside and inside boiling. It was a fun Sunday spent outside!

Look what we got!!

8 gallons of sap made 3 1/2 jars of maple syrup! We boiled about 2 minutes too long, so it is a bit thicker than maple syrup you would find at the store, but about 10 seconds in the microwave and it is perfect! The next morning of course we had pancakes and the last two nights we had a dessert that might now be my favorite, vanilla ice cream with warm maple syrup drizzled on it. Seriously. to. die. for.

After all that work, Mike understands why maple syrup is so expensive! Ha! But the process was fun!

This picture of Bentley is now my favorite. Our first baby is getting old and doesn't hear very well anymore, so I was able to get right up close without him opening his eyes.

If you want to see more of my favorite photos, you can check out Tuesdays post. Show and Tell your 5 favorite pictures!

Friday is a favorite in our house. Today I am having breakfast with a friend I haven't seen in a while, searching for bathroom tile and then settling in with the kiddos and the hubby for pizza and movie night! Any good suggestions for a movie??

Till next time!

Show and Tell Tuesday - 5 Favorite Pictures

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Today I decided to join Andrea over at Momfessionals for Show and Tell Tuesday and share my 5 favorite photos of all time. This was not an easy task. I have so many pictures that I consider a favorite. I would think I had it narrowed down and then I would think of another one! Here is my list, with maybe a few extras just because I couldn't decide!

This is one of my favorite family photos! It is just quick selfie, but it makes me smile! We had so much fun on our trip to New York and this shows it!

A girl and her dad.

This picture of Olivia and her cousin just represents pure joy to me! This is summer in Maine and I love it!

This candid of the kids makes me smile every time I see it. Believe me they aren't always this sweet with each other, but when they are I cherish it!

My all time favorite photo with my kids.

And because I couldn't choose just 5, here are a few more faves

That hat, those cheeks

Again pure summer joy...

and more...
Are we seeing a summer theme here??

This one with papa always cracks me up! Could they look any cooler?

And of course, I can't not put a picture of the house in here. This picture signifies the end of a long, long project and has to be one of my favorites! If you want to check out the journey of the outside and inside of the house you can click here for the outside and here for the inside

Thanks Andrea for hosting a fun link up!

Inside House Tour

Tuesday, March 21, 2017

You guys, this took me a long time to do, but I am happy with how the whole thing turned out. There are a few quirky parts, but for a first time movie maker...not too bad!

Now it is hard for me to listen to myself talk and put myself out there like this, so of course I am super critical about how I sound...and I don't know if you will be able to tell from watching this, that "I love this house!" I might say it a few times!

One last disclaimer, there is still a lot of work to be done. Every room has a bunch of stuff on the list to finish. It certainly doesn't look like a "beautiful home" inside yet, but slowly but surely we are working on it! I have lots of ideas to decorate each space and am excited to finish up each room!

If you missed the transformation of the outside. Check it out here.

Enjoy the tour!

DIY Indoor Planter

Thursday, March 16, 2017

I have been thinking about how I want to decorate my house for years. Years. And although everything is not finished, everything is in the location it is staying so I feel like I can start decorating! This makes me so happy! We have some built in cupboards in the living room with the TV on the wall above it. The wood counter top is about 90 inches long but a large majority of that space only allows for decor 12-15 inches high because of the TV. I was under very direct orders that none of the TV can be covered up!!

I had in my head exactly what I wanted for that space, but had not been able to find it. It either wasn't big enough or not in my budget. So, I decided to make one myself! Check it out.

I was walking out of a local store one day and on their deck they had plain planter boxes. I had already purchased something and was heading out, but grabbed one and headed right back in because I knew I had found what I wanted and it was only $15! I brought it home and it looked like this. Blah!

The first thing I did was use Minwax English Chestnut stain to cover the whole outside of the box. I let that dry overnight. In the morning, I foam brushed over the stain with white paint. I painted the whole box and then immediately started to sand it off to get a good distressed look. The whole paint distress process only took me maybe 15 minutes. Easy.

I had purchased fake plants at Hobby Lobby and fake spanish moss at the Dollar Store and filled up the planter!

Almost all of the plants I bought actually came in its own pot which I like because I plan to switch things out for different seasons eventually. Since the plants have their own pots, I can go ahead and stick them somewhere else in the house when I choose something different for this planter box!

I wrapped the spanish moss around the tops of each plant so you can't tell that there are pots in the box! Then I used the rest of the moss to go between each plant. I used a total of 4 bags of moss.

Seriously, the whole thing took maybe 45 minutes and under $50 (includes, box, plants and moss). One box that I had fallen in love with, was $68 for the box. Empty. I couldn't justify it. I love the way this turned out and eventually I will switch out the plants with flowers for spring, add berries for Christmas, etc., but since I just bought these plants, I am sticking with them for now!

I scattered a few jelly beans through the moss to give it a little Easter touch and color! Loving how it looks!

I hope you like it as much as I do and are inspired to make something you might not be able to find! I am working on my whole inside house tour! I am hoping to have it ready for you all next week! Till next time 💜
